Category: Cain Valley River Group
The Cain Valley River Group is a local group of committed volunteers who are interested in the Cain river and are active in promoting the health of the river and the surrounding nature.
The Cain Valley begins just west of Llanfyllin, runs down to Llanfechain and ends at Llansanffraid. Down this curving length is the long central artery of the river Cain. When we started the Cain Valley River Group (CVRG) back in 2008, to look after the river and the life that surrounds it, environmental awareness was much less than it is today. Many more are now aware of the importance of our rivers, of the sad and dangerous loss of biodiversity, the harm caused by invasive species and the dangers of plastic rubbish.
The work of the CVRG in monitoring water quality in the Cain, putting up bird and bat boxes, planting trees and hedges, reducing invasive species, surveying the river and associated wildlife, collecting rubbish and helping raise environmental awareness, has therefore been of real value to our local environment.
Although the CVRG has been a separate group for many years, it has recently joined forces with BRACE!
